Throughout our lives, we receive so many messages about how we ‘should’ be living our lives and what the ‘right’ goals and dreams are.

The well-intentioned expectations of others can muddy our truth and cause us to lose our direction and misplace our purpose.

Take some time to clear away what is not true to your spirit so you can fully embrace what is.

DETANGLING ORIGINS OF GOALS AND DREAMS

Messages that come from others often involve elements that don’t feel like they belong to us.

As Barbara de Angelis says, “we need to find the courage to say “no” to the things and people that are not serving us if we want to rediscover ourselves and live our lives with authenticity.”

Go through these reflections and see what detangling you can do. Hone in on the parts that feel like they don’t belong.

‘Dream bigger. Bigger is better.’

Big goals and dreams can be so very beautiful. And other times, they can be too much.

Does your spirit want to live big? Does it want to live simply?

If you lived the big dream if you achieved the big goal, how would it feel? (Busy? Content? Peaceful? Rushed? Competitive? Calm? Loving? Empty?)

‘ Do more. Have more. Be more.’

Does your heart want to have more than enough? Does it want to have enough?

Does your desire to set big goals come from a place of personal truth? Does it come from someone else’s opinion or expectation?

‘We would be so proud if…’

Are you trying to impress someone with your big dream?

Was your dream planted by your parents, teachers, coaches, departed relatives, or someone else? Does it come from social conditioning? Or, did you plant the seeds yourself?

This above all…to thine own self be true.

None of us will ever accomplish anything excellent or commanding except when he listens to this whisper, which is heard by him alone. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you were to listen to the whisper of your heart, what would it say?

Follow your heart, it knows what you most want.
