Dreams really do come true.

The past six months was packed full of dreams turned reality.

Doors swung wide open.
Green lights all the way.

I travelled to beautiful places, spoke at wholehearted events, played in the surf with my boys, wrote poetry {and people liked it}, my relationships deepened to a soulful level and I travelled some more.

My client docket is bursting with amazing people I adore, I presented at TEDx and I’m packing up to facilitate the retreat I’ve always wanted to host.

Dreams really do come true.

It wasn’t always this way. Not too long ago I felt like I was frantically chasing dreams and agonizing over achieving my goals.

Looking back, I can see clearly what the problem was.

I wasn’t dreaming my dream – I was dreaming the dream I ‘thought’ I should have. My goal setting was unconscious, based on stale beliefs and outdated patterns. My goals were supersized and unhealthy — goals should only be supersized if they are authentic. Supersizing inauthentic goals can be disastrous and devastating.

I’ve discovered how good it feels to live in the truth of an authentic goal. Nourishing. Inspiring. Energizing.

In the past, I neglected to refine my dreams. I tossed the dream out into the future and kept walking towards it no matter what. Life is rarely a straight line, we are meant to curve, to evolve, to adapt, to change our minds.

Dream refinement is a necessity.

I’m becoming even more refined in my dreaming process. What I thought I wanted, I got, and it turns out I don’t want it. It needs to be refined. Stripped away. Simplified. Again.

Play with these journal questions to help you refine your dreams and find your authentic goals.

Whose dream is this?
What does an authentic goal feel like?
Why do I want the goal I think I want?
What does an inauthentic goal feel like?
How can I refine this dream even more?
How do I feel about stepping in the direction of this dream?

Joseph Campbell is one of the people I consult with {in my imagination} when I am setting authentic goals and refining my dreams.

He whispers to me and to the rest of the world,

if you follow your bliss,
you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while,
waiting for you,
the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living.
When you can see that,
you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss,
and they open the doors to you.
I say,
follow your bliss and don’t be afraid,
and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.
