I was in Starbucks today, working while enjoying a soy green tea latte when my Barista asked me  a question about self love. Her question inspired the Q&A for today.

A fun way to start developing self-love is by writing a love-letter to yourself.

Below I’ve written a love-letter to myself to help you get started on yours.

Dear Gemma,

You are brave. Not a day passes that I don’t have a moment of thankfulness at what you were willing to forgive so that you could truly heal. Wonder-full.

I like that you try to live a beautiful life.

I like that when you see brutality you search for meaning. I love that about you.

I think the wrinkles around your eyes are pretty cute. They are the evidence of the laughter and smiles that you’ve had.

Even though you don’t always like your furrowed brow, it’s something I love too. It means you care. It means you worry about others. It means you reflect on life.

I like that you allow yourself to cry. It takes courage to break your heart open. When it heals it grows bigger and stronger. I love how you trust in this knowledge and so you are willing to risk tearfulness.

I love when you’re excited and your hands flail about in an attempt to punctuate your ideas.

I love how you believe that if you reach for the moon you’ll land among the stars. You aim high everyday. I think that’s pretty awesome.

I like that you trust your heart over your head even when it isn’t always safe or logical.

I like that you sing out loud, even though you can’t sing and you don’t know the lyrics. I love that sometimes you play up your foolishness in order to entertain the people you love.

I like the moments that you think you’ve figured it all out.

I like moments that you remember you have so much to learn.

I like the way you’re always reading something…always searching for more knowledge…more skills…more awareness…more. I love that you want to be better for the people who are in your life.

I like the way you deeply listen. You ache to hear the words that are unspoken. I think that’s pretty swell.

I like that you’ve had a few wild-world-wide adventures. I like that you’re at peace with putting more adventures on hold until the time is right.

I like that there is always something going on in your mind. A mixture of hopes and dreams and ideas that no one knows about. It’s like a secret garden that only I know the entrance too. I like the mystery of our special place.

I like that in each moment, you recommit to being loving.

I love you. I really do.

And….I love you. As always, thanks for watching and reading. I’d love to read your love letter to yourself.
